War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen are the official hosts and hostesses for the university. They represent Auburn University students to administrators, faculty and the Auburn University community.
They work for the Office of the President and are made up of 12 men and 12 women and Miss Auburn serves as an honorary member.
The duties of the War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen vary each week but their busiest season is football season. They attend every home and away game. Every week they are each given their assignments and where they will be positioned on game day.
War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen are split up into groups and spend game day in various locations. The locations include: The Presidential suite, The Letterman Lounge, The Alumni tailgate or standing on the field to cheer on the football team.
War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen perform various different tasks on game day. They distribute name tags, greet athletes and board of trustees, and help with anything that is needed. They also work at various different special events that are affiliated with the university.
War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen can also be found giving campus tours, attending alumni events, hosting special guests that come to Auburn and attending Board of Trustees meetings.
To be eligible to try out for War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen one must have been a student at Auburn for three semesters. War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen are honorable positions at Auburn because they get to experience many unique events and venues.
Lauren Bailey is a junior majoring in Public Relations. She became a War Eagle Girl in February 2011 and has enjoyed every second of it.
“My favorite part about being a War Eagle Girl is the relationships that I have formed and how much my love for Auburn has grown,” said Bailey. “You learn to appreciate how much work people put into making Auburn what it is and then you start to see Auburn in such a different way.”
She describes her experience as a War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen as “a humbling experience because not many people get this opportunity.”
War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen go through many training sessions, memorize large binders full of important people and history and learn the way Auburn works so successfully.
