Trick-or-treat. The famous words used by kids to get a handful of candy and if they are lucky maybe two handfuls filled with snickers, twix and M&M’s.
Bring your goblin, princess, batman or pumpkin to the 9th Annual Downtown Auburn Trick-or-Treat event scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 29 from 6-8 p.m. All children 12 years of age and younger are guaranteed to leave with a bag full of candy and treats with most of the downtown Auburn merchants participating in this year’s candy walk.
“We like taking part in this community activity each year because it is a safe environment and traffic-free zone for the trick-or-treaters,” said Chevonne Adams, an employee of Bizilia’s Café. “Plus, we have the best Captain Jack Sparrow giving out candy.”
Downtown trick-or-treaters will easily be able to pick out which merchants are participating in this year’s event. Each participating business will have an “Official Monster Merchant” poster hanging in their window.
“We are really excited about this year’s trick-or-treat and have decided to decorate the outside of the store,” said Nicole Smith, manager of AuburnArt.com. “We will have three girls dressed up giving out so much candy. I actually just went and bought a whole shopping cart worth of candy for the event.”
This year’s Halloween festivities are not limited to collecting as much candy as possible. There are events planned for children of all ages to enjoy with live musical entertainment, costume contests, a haunted house and more.
“I love handing out candy at this event because I like to see the kids’ costumes,” said Laura Harris, an employee of the local boutique Therapy. “I also like to talk to Batman and Robin.”
Are you up for a scare? Take a stroll through the haunted house that Eric Stamp, owner of the local store Stamp, and his staff create each year. Intended for children 12 years of age and younger, some shrills and screams are sure to be heard throughout the streets of downtown Auburn.
“Our employees put in a lot of time creating the haunted house each year, but it is something fun for our employees to do,” said Stamp. “It is nice for our working team to get together as a unit and scare kids in the spirit of Halloween.”
