Tiger fans watched their Auburn Tigers defeat Tennessee last Saturday bringing their record to 5-0. Fans were hoping for a break into the top 25, but were pleasantly surprised to see that Auburn is now ranked number 17 in the nation, a spot rightly deserved by the Tigers.
Now, Tiger fans all around are thinking one thing, can their team keep it? Can the Tigers keep improving every week to come out on top?
Auburn has a tough month ahead of them. In the next few weeks the Tigers play five SEC teams and three of those games are on the road. With five wins under their belt, it's hard for the players, and the fans, not to get cocky. The Tigers have gone out each week and succeed in accomplishing their goal, winning football games.
Can the Tigers keep winning? Can they rise to the top of the ranking and defeat teams like LSU and Alabama?
"The Tigers have been playing extremely well this season," said Will Andrews, a freshman at Auburn. "It's exciting to see Auburn do well this year. I think the rest of the season is going to be a challenge for the Tigers, but if they work hard each week and keep their heads in the game we can beat any team we come across."
With nine new coaches and many young players, everyone had doubts about how well the Tigers would do.
"With a brand new coaching staff you never know what to expect," said David Knott, a junior at Auburn. "But Chizik and the rest of coaching staff have reminded Auburn fans what it means to be a part of a winning team."
Week after week the Tigers have shown their fans what they are made of; dedication, power, resilience and strength. The team does not let a little challenge deter them from their goal, which is important for success.
"I'm proud to call myself an Auburn Tiger," said Andrews. "It's nice to see my team come out week after week and pull off a win. After last season, no one really had a good outlook for this year, but the whole team has really stepped up in the face of adversity."
This Saturday, the Tigers travel to Arkansas for their second road game against the Arkansas Ravorbacks. The game will air on ESPN at 11 a.m.
