Auburn fans who are used to "All Auburn, All Orange" on game days are getting an exciting new change to the game day attire, "Navy Nightmare." "Navy Nightmare" is Auburn's new "All Auburn, All Orange" for the Ole Miss game, which falls on Halloween. Students are being encouraged to wear Auburn navy to the game instead of the usual Auburn orange.
"Navy Nightmare" was conceived in the Athletics Department as a way to spice up the Halloween football game.
Students that have been Auburn fans their whole lives are thrilled to be able to show people the darker side of Auburn fans.
"Growing up an Auburn fan, I have only seen the 'All Auburn, All Orange,'" said Jessica Johnson, a senior at Auburn University. "I am excited to see something new brought to the table, something that is different than the norm and something that can allow students to get into the Halloween and Auburn football spirit."
Like most new Auburn fans, Lynn Mullen, a first year graduate student at Auburn, was blown away by her first football game experience. With "Navy Nightmare" rapidly approaching, Mullen is anxious to see the fire it will bring out of the fans.
"This semester is my first semester at Auburn," said Mullen. "When I went to the first football game of the season, it was like nothing I'd ever seen before. Everyone was so excited to watch the Tigers play. It's going to be interesting to see how "Navy Nightmare" can help intensify that excitement in the fans."
Students are also expecting "Navy Nightmare" to be an intimidation tactic against the Rebels of Ole Miss.
"I hope that the entire stadium is a sea on navy on game day so Ole Miss can see what kind of passion and intensity the fans have for the Auburn Tigers," said Johnson. "I think 'Navy Nightmare' will also help light a fire under the players and give them the drive they need to win."
The Ole Miss game begins at 11:21 a.m. The gates to Jordan-Hare Stadium open three hours prior to kickoff.
