On Saturday, October 25, the Best Western in Auburn will be the location of the MMA/ Boxing Event, the Main Event 4.

The event incorporates Mixed Martial Arts which is a full combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques to be used. MMA became popular in American culture in 1993 with the founding of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The Main Event 4 incorporates both boxing and MMA into the night’s festivities.

MMA has recently begun to include weight classes into their matches just like boxing. Because of the sports growing popularity, additional rules have been added to increase safety. But the rules still remain minimal, competitors are allowed to strike and grapple their opponents.

Antonio Fanning is fighting is a boxer in the competition. He began fighting more than four years ago and competed in the first Main Event. “I saw the flier and I thought that it was something I’d be good at and I’d like to try,” explains Fanning. Turned out, he was very good. Fanning has fought in 35 fights and his record is 30-5. Fanning is a part of the Nutrition First team and trains every day during the week for two to three hours per day. He considers his college fights a warm up. “I hope to go into pro fighting,” he explains. He also teaches a boxing class at Gold’s Gym Max on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6:45 p.m.

There are more than 15 fights scheduled for Saturday night and Fanning proclaims that the night is going to be “action packed.”

The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8. Tickets can be purchased at Nutrition First, Bad Boyz MMA Gym or at the door. Prices are $15 for general admission, $35 for 1st row ringside seating and $35 for all other seats. For more information please visit myspace.com/aurumble.
