Kristin Cooper, a senior at Auburn University, is the marketing intern for the Chizik Family YouTurn Foundation, Inc. YouTurn is a non-profit organization in Alabama which focuses on equipping youth with effective tools to make positive choices allowing them to become successful citizens.
The organization's desire is to partner with non-profit organizations in Alabama who work directly with youth to positively impact their future. Members want to help children turn around from a potentially negative direction, and to equip them with the tools necessary for ensuring their own success.
The Chizik Family YouTurn Foundation is currently founded by Coach Chizik's proceeds from his book, ALL IN, released July 5. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the book are donated to YouTurn and its non-profit partners and programs.
Due to April's devastating tornadoes, YouTurn has created two fundraisers to benefit children and their families that were affected by the tornadoes in the Dadeville and Lake Martin, AL area.
On Sept. 18, the organization held a fundraising event at Sips 'n Stroke called Auburn Art2Heart. It was a artistic and charitable "Girls Afternoon Out" planned to celebrate the end of summer and uniqueness of each woman while benefiting children and families in the Lake Martin and Dadeville area.
Students were taught to paint a canvas entitled "All In Angel" which was available only during the event. Sips 'n Strokes' teaching artist will donate the artwork to the silent auction at YouTurn's upcoming Tornado Trash2Treasure Art Gala and Celebration Concert.
The organization raised $3,250 at Art2Heart for the tornado victims.
Aubie even attended the event to support the foundation. "We had a total of about 50 to 75 people show up, which was such a great turn out," Cooper said.
Cooper is a part of each event that the foundation holds and helps spread the word about the events around the Auburn-Opelika area.
"Being a part of this organization has been so rewarding," Cooper said. "I have really seen what the true "Auburn Family" is all about."
The next event, Tornado Trash2Treasure, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Event Center in downtown Opelika. More than 30 art items, including one-of-a-kind- sports memorabilia and unique vacation packages, will be for sale during the live and silent auction. The event will be a celebration concert with a variety of musicians including Jen and Rob Slocumb of "Martha's Trouble" and Tim Chambliss of "KiddBlue."
