A life-long resident of Opelika, Andrus realized his love of horticulture in classes at Opelika High School. Then, in college at Auburn University, he further developed his love and graduated in 2005 with a horticulture degree. He translated that experience to opening Spring-Green in August 2009.

“I decided I liked playing with plants and playing in the dirt,” said Andrus. “I always wanted to own my own business and this opportunity came along with Spring-Green and I took a shot.”

Andrus began the first branch of Spring-Green in Alabama largely because of their marketing strategy.

“I knew that was something that really drove sales and drove business,” said Andrus.

Although business started mostly with his personal contacts, Andrus has been gaining new customers through direct-mail, face-to-face contact with customers and Spring-Green’s Web site.

Spring-Green offers commercial and residential lawn care, with services including lawn fertilization, weed control, core aeration, insect control and tree and shrub maintenance. Andrus is currently serving all areas between Montgomery, Opelika, Auburn and Phoenix City.

“This is a home town business, I’m doing the work,” said Andrus. “There’s a lot of folks out here who do this sort of business, but I like to pride myself on attention to detail and addressing customer needs.”
