Friday, Sept. 17, the Auburn Tigers are hitting the road to Clemson, S.C., to take on the Clemson Tigers for their first away game of the season.
Just four hours away, according to Google maps, planning a weekend road trip to the game is in many fans' future plans. One of which is Thomas Andrews, a senior at Auburn.
Life long fan of Auburn football, he has attended home and away games for as long as he can remember.
“My grandparents drive down every home game weekend in their RV to support the team, so needless to say being an Auburn football fan runs in the family,” Andrews said.
Andrews intends to pack up with some of his pledge brothers and hit the road Friday afternoon, not phased by having a test the following Monday.
“I’m looking forward to a weekend of tailgating, football, catching up with high school buddies and hopefully a win,” he says.
According to Asher Steinbeck, a senior at Clemson and friend of Andrews, Esso Club is a popular location for out-of-towners and students without tickets to not only watch the game, but also celebrate afterwards.
For those not able to travel to Clemson, there are plenty of ways to cheer on the team here on The Plains.
Auburn senior, Morgan Sumner has found ways to support the team from the comfort of her own home.
“My friends and I always put together a little tailgate for each away game that we can’t make it to. Each person makes a little something to bring to the tailgate and we all watch the game together,” Sumner said.
Traveling to away games can be expensive, so she and her friends have found their own way to enjoy the game.
“Some of the bars downtown have special hours for games and you can go there to watch, but since this one is an early game, we’re going to plan for a breakfast tailgate.” Sumner said
Once the Auburn game is over, she and her friends plan to watch other football games being played throughout the day, followed by a night out downtown.
Whether the tigers are playing at Jordan-Hare Stadium or on the road to victory somewhere else, there’s always a way to show support.
Support the Auburn Tigers for their other upcoming away games at the University of South Carolina Oct. 1, Arkansas Oct. 8, Louisiana State University Oct. 22 and the University of Georgia Nov. 12.
