Auburn University Student Government Association will be having their 17th annual fall 5k race on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 from 2-5p.m. This year all proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Lee County.
The race will begin at the Auburn University Green Space, located next to the Student Center.
The director of this year’s event is Katie Kuhn, an Auburn University sophomore. Kuhn is happy to become more involved with Auburn’s SGA as well as working diligently to set up this year’s event. Kuhn is excited to be working with Habitat for Humanity this year.
“I am proud to announce that we will be benefitting Habitat for Humanity of Lee County … it is a great organization that provides affordable housing to families that wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford it.”
This year the route has changed to focus more on Auburn University’s campus, participants will get to pass by all of the major buildings!
Kuhn thinks that this a worthy cause for Auburn students. “Sometimes we live in our Auburn bubble and we don’t realize what is going on right outside our door… there are families in Auburn who are in dire need of help.”
There is a $15.00 registration fee; participants will receive a free t-shirt when they sign up while supplies last. Students who pre-register will receive 10 spirit points, students who register the day of will receive five spirit points. Participants can pick up their numbers at 2p.m. and the race will begin at 3p.m.
You don’t have to be an experienced runner to participant, all levels are welcome!
“There will be food, fun, friends and maybe even Aubie.”
In addition to Aubie, the Auburn University Cheerleaders and Tiger Paws will be out to make sure everyone is having a good time! Last year’s fall 5k brought out over 600 participants. The Fall 5k has been an Auburn SGA tradition since 1994.
Anyone who would like to take part in this event can pre-register here on the SGA's website. For more information, contact Katie Kuhn at ktk0004@tigermail.auburn.edu.
