Social media has been a booming topic in our Style and Design class this semester. It was not until this semester that I realized theimportance of social media. Through my Style and Design class, I have learned about a new form of social media that was created for and by Auburn University public relations students.

Wareagle.me is a social media site that will work to keep all alumni, faculty and students connected. A public relations campaign class designed this interactive website as a tool for networking.

Polly Payne, senior at Auburn University majoring in public relations said, “Especially as a public relations student, social media is vital to our success. News is moving online, the adoption rate to social media is growing rapidly and this is a channel that we have to adopt and we have to use for our benefit.”

As a graduating senior, I have been thinking about how to network and how to get out there and show people what I can do and now my question is answered, WarEagle.Me.

I believe this website is a great idea and a great opportunity for all Auburn public relations students. Not only does it connect students with alumni and faculty, it also gives students a place to voice their opinions, display their work and keep in the know about what is going on at Auburn. Through wareagle.me, students are able to search for internships and jobs, read others work, make comments and have a safe place to discuss our future and ideas freely.

“Building relationships is what it is all about,” according to Payne. “Networking is the best tool we have as public relation's students.”

This website is similar to other social media sites lsuch as, facebook, myspace and theloveliestvillage, but what makes this site stand out is that it is exclusively for public relations students at Auburn University. The site excludes other schools or colleges on campus and was designed specifically for public relations students.

Payne said, “Wareagle.me is a great way for me to network and gain advice from all the Auburn students who have gone on and made great careers for themselves. This is a way for us to talk to them, get advice and learn what is going on in our market that we are about to jump into.”

According to Payne, Wareagle.me is a way to, “follow people in your industry and realize what they are thinking about, what they are talking about and what their learning about.”

As a public relations student, I am excited about the newest edition to our program. I think this site will be a great tool for all public relations students, faculty and alumni.
