So many of us are getting ready to leave the place we spent our last four years at. It is a place that many of us can call home. It is where our best friends are, where we learned things we never imagined we would learn and where we were taught life lessons that only those four years at Auburn University could teach us. It is a bitter-sweet ending for many of us as we count down the last few weeks remaining.
Some students spent their four years involved from beginning to the end. Between intramurals, ministries, SGA and many other campus organizations they never stopped doing something. Other students did not feel the need to get as involved. They focused on their studies and their friends. For most students no matter how the four years were spent, it would all end the same. Growing up and going into the real world are the same experiences every college student faces when leaving Auburn.
For many students who spent the four years extremely involved on campus, there is a sudden period of down time for them. Many campus organizations have already chosen new members or are currently choosing their new members. This means that the seniors graduating are finished and the new students are now taking and fulfilling those roles that were previously filled by them. The Student Government Association has new people filling the new office positions.
Former SGA Vice President Tori Bray just recently gave her position to the new vice president as she prepares to graduate and move on. Bray was heavily involved on campus and now has a lot of extra free time on her hands. To her this free time is very beneficial as she begins searching for jobs and looking to her future outside of Auburn. She is currently thinking about going to China or possibly doing Teach for America. If these do not work out then graduate school is always an option. All of these options require extra time and preparation however. She now has this time available due to handing on her positions in different organizations to other people.
Many other seniors are in similar positions. As younger students fill their roles, it allows more free time to be able to focus on planning for the future. Job interviews, applications and planning begin to take up a lot of time. This time is much more manageable with hours of involvement put behind them.
Freshman, sophomores and juniors have many options for campus involvement. Many new doors are being opened to them as the seniors begin stepping down from their former roles and positions. For many of them it is an exciting time of the year.
