Auburn’s greatest tradition is now the plains’ latest game day accessory.
It’s Toomers Rolls, a scarf that looks just like a roll of toilet paper that is sure to keep Auburn fans warm and spirited on chilly football Saturdays. Toomers Rolls are made out of soft, scarf -like material that will keep you wrapped in spirit whether watching the game home or away.
Auburn alumna, Jennifer Buckert, and her friend, Clement Mardon, a Georgia Tech graduate, created the scarves.
The 2010 SEC Championship is what sparked the idea.
“I noticed fans draped in toilet paper wrapped around their necks- celebrating our big win,” said Buckert. “I thought it looked like a great accessory and ode to an Auburn tradition.”
Since January 2011, Buckert and Mardon scoured every Atlanta fabric store in search for something that resembled toilet paper.
“We clumsily learned how to sew 4-inch by 4-inch squares of the fabric, met with the Toomer’s trademark family and got our first business license,” said Buckert.
Wrapped around replica cardboard toilet paper rolls, and featuring fine stitching that mimics toilet paper perforation seams, these scarves are soft and stylish and give a nod to Auburn’s famous winning tradition.
Customers can also have their scarves personalized with their name, sorority chapter or a cute phrase like “war eagle!”
The scarves are priced at $17.16 in honor of the score of the famous 1972 Iron Bowl. Shipping is included.
The duo were very excited to get their new product launched, but Auburn fans seemed even more energetic than they were.
“We already have customers planning on rolling their Christmas trees with Toomers Rolls,” said Buckert.
The first batch of Toomers Rolls was sold out within the first week they were released thanks to blogs, facebook and word of mouth.
Senior at Auburn University, Leah Rainold, just bought her own Toomers Roll.
“I saw one of my friends wearing one at the Florida Atlantic game and knew I had to have one,” said Rainold “I’m planning on giving them to my friends and family as Christmas presents so we can all wear them to a bowl game, if we make it that far.”
Toomers Rolls are always in stock at www.toomersrolls.com and are now sold at Big Blue Bookstore, Wrapsody and Toomers Drugs.
“Toomers Rolls was created out of sheer passion,” said Buckert. “Since our inception, the Toomers Oaks were poisoned, giving the need to further preserve the tradition.”
