Who doesn’t like live music and who doesn’t like the feeling you get when you’ve just helped someone out? No one! This Tuesday, March 31, the community of Auburn will have the opportunity to do both things: listen to good music with their friends, all while helping out others. That is because the Alpha Gamma Delta social sorority will be holding their spring philanthropy event, Wing Jam.

Tuesday will mark the 8th annual Wing Jam. Wing Jam is set up like a glorified talent show. Contestants display their musical talents while the crowd votes on their favorites with dollar bills. At the end of the night one contestant is declared the winner of Wing Jam.

Wing Jam got its name from two things. Each year it is held at a wings restaurant in Auburn, hence the “wing” in Wing Jam. The “jam” comes from the fact that you get to enjoy live music. This makes Wing Jam a unique and fun experience for everyone, both the crowd and the contestants.

Courtney Blythe, a junior member of Alpha Gamma Delta, is this year’s philanthropy coordinator. Taking on such a huge responsibility would be intimidating for most college students, but not for Blythe. “I wanted to give back to Alpha Gam and thought that this would be the perfect way to do so,” says Blythe.

While there are various philanthropies taking place this spring, this one is easy to take part in. All you have to do is come grab some dinner, a drink and sit back and relax. “My favorite thing about it is the live music and laid back atmosphere,” says Blythe. It is an event that many Auburn students look forward to each year.

All proceeds of Wing Jam go to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, which supports diabetes research. This cause is particularly important to one member of Alpha Gamma Delta.

Chelsea Ferguson is a sophomore at Alpha Gam living with diabetes. She has served on the philanthropy committee for Alpha Gamma Delta the past two years. Her personal story has touched many members of the sorority and made the philanthropy event that much more special.

“Service has always been important to me, but knowing exactly what these funds can do for finding a cure inspires me to do all I can to help,” says Ferguson. And that she has done. Ferguson has played a vital role in the preparations for this year’s Wing Jam.

Wing Jam has grown over the past two years, raising over $10,000 last year. This year is expected to be no different. There will be 15 contestants showing up on Tuesday night to show off their talent.

“My favorite part of Wing Jam is seeing how many people come to support Alpha Gam and our philanthropy. The event is so much fun, and there are always so many people there,” says Ferguson. This year’s event will take place Tuesday, March 31 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Buffalo Connection on the corner of Shug Jordan parkway.
