The leaves are falling as the cool weather sets in, welcoming the “Lee County Fair” back to town. The 2009 “Lee County Fair,” located at the Lee County Fairground on LaFayette Parkway past Southern Union State Community College, opened Tuesday and will entertain attendees through Saturday.
The fair has much to offer kids of all ages, young and old, from hot dogs and cotton candy to livestock competitions and thrill rides. Half of the available rides are designed to be kid-friendly, and the 4-H sponsored livestock competitions feature animals shown by contestants as young as three years old.
Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children ages 12 and under.
“Our prices are extremely reasonable,” said Lee Sadler, departmental superintendent of the “Lee County Fair.” “That’s why we continue to have a great turn out of families and college students as well.”
With 40 booths, 22 rides, the big tent, a livestock barn and a wealth of concession stands, the fair is ready to go. Gates open nightly at 6 p.m. unless otherwise stated below. Here is a look at the upcoming events this week:
-Tuesday, Oct. 6: Kids Day, with free admission to children and adults from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.
-Wednesday, Oct. 7: Miss Lee County Fair pageant begins at 7 p.m.
-Thursday, Oct. 8: Good Gospel Sing’n in the big tent at 7 p.m. and the State-Wide Goat Show starting at 6 p.m.

The Lee County Fair is a fundraiser for the Opelika Exchange Club, who has sponsored the year for about 30 years.
“It should be a good time for all, and we can’t wait to get started!” said Sadler.
