Since mid-August, Budweiser promoters have been seen around Auburn restaurants and bars endorsing Anheuser Busch products. Callie Barfell, a senior at Auburn University, has been working as a promoter for almost a month and enjoys the work.
“It doesn’t even feel like a job. I just get to talk to people for two hours,” Barfell said.
A Budweiser manager offered Barfell the job after seeing how well she naturally interacted with people while she visited with her friends at Skybar.
“They came up to me at the bar and told me they thought that I was really social and thought I would add something their scooter promotion team,” Barfell said.
After hearing what the job would entail and the various perks that the job had to offer, Barfell was hooked.
“The schedule they explained to me was definitely doable and the advantages of being a promoter were great,” Barfell said.
Budweiser promoters typically work three weekdays and every Saturday that there’s a home football game.
“Before this job I used to spend all day Saturday hanging out at one tailgate, but since I’ve been a promoter I get to visit a ton of them,” Barfell said.
Budweiser promoters are typically responsible for three main tasks. At every event, the promoters are required to pass out merchandise to the people at the venue. The products range from a variety of colorful T-shirts to Budweiser cozies.
“College kids love T-shirts, this is something I’ve come to realize,” Barfell jokes.
Another obligation for the promoters is to get people to sign up to be a part of the promotion that Budweiser is currently hosting.
“Right now we are busy getting people excited about our scooter promotion that will be going on till November,” Barfell said.
The final task for Budweiser promoters is to take at least 60 pictures of fans enjoying their brew while signing up to win the prize that they are promoting.
“We take a bunch of pictures and immediately put them up on Uhaps.com for people to check out,” Barfell said.
In addition to getting free stuff, Barfell mainly enjoys the networking perk that she has been able to do because of this job.
“Not only have I been able to meet a lot of friends by doing this, but my boss, Allison, has agreed to help me with whatever I need job wise after I graduate,” Barfell said.
Since Auburn is one of the last SEC schools to organize a Budweiser promotion team, they are always scouting for future promoters, but they aren’t currently hiring for the scooter promotion.
“My advice to someone looking to be a Budweiser promoter is to be friendly and sociable, you never know when one of the managers is scouting for members for their next promotion team,” Barfell said.
