For over 20 years Jane Thrash and her store, Heartstrings, has been charming the community and students of Auburn University. It has now come to a close, but as the saying goes, when a door is shut, another opens.
Despite economic troubles for some, 15 employees will get to keep their jobs as Heartstrings switches over to the new store, Wrapsody.
The store originated in Birmingham, under the ownership of Sarah Brown and Jane Shea.
One condition of Thrash’s retirement and selling her store to the duo was that all the employees get to keep their job. A male employee was also hired to join the all-female staff.
Wrapsody’s merchandise will be similar to Heartstrings, only with less home décor.
“The new store has a lot more jewelry in it,” said employee Mary Beth Walton. “There’s still vintage décor and gift items though.”
The store will also be carrying a large selection of Vera Bradley, Brighton, and greek merchandise. Heartstrings was one of the leaders in carrying greek products.
Over the last two weeks, employees have been busy redecorating. At today’s opening, customers walked in to a completely made over store, with new carpet, newly painted walls, and brand new displays.
“I didn’t even recognize the store!” said Auburn resident Morgan Rogers. “I’ve been coming to Heartstrings ever since I moved here, and while I’ll miss them, I will definitely be purchasing from Wrapsody.”
Heartstrings Enterprises, the nationwide online engraving and gift store, is still open for business.
Auburn isn’t a stranger to boutiques downtown. Other stores around Toomers Corner include Behind the Glass, Simply Charming, Ellie, and Private Gallery. According to Brown and Shea, they don’t plan on creating heavy competition among the stores, though.
So whether its earrings, purses, or ceramic décor for your walls, Wrapsody carries it. Opening day is March 30th at 8 a.m.
