As the temperature begins to rise to the '60s in March, many of us may attempt to hit the pool, but others do no want to brave the chill that still remains in the air from winter. So what to do? Why not break out your golf clubs instead of your bathing suit?
Auburn was recently ranked the number one city for golf by "Golf Digest." Auburn contains multiple golf courses to suit anyone’s preference or pocket. Prices range all over the place, and a few of the courses are quite student friendly. Indian Pines ranges only from $27 to $33 for 18 holes. The prices for the driving range are equally reasonable as well in case you wanted to hit the range in between classes.
If you are looking for nice scenery while getting some exercise, golf is the way to go.
“Golf is a stress reliever and a fun thing to do when you have free time. Also, it’s a great way to get some exercise,” said Natalie Edwards, Auburn University student.
Links is $36 for 18 holes Monday-Thursday and is set along the Parkerson’s Mill Creek.
“Some courses even have student discounts,” said Brandon Thrash, Auburn University student.
So in other words, it may be a good idea to bring your student ID along when you are trying out some of the courses in Auburn.
If you are interested in scenery and do not mind what price it takes to play, then the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is another option.
"I would have to say that Robert Trent Jones is my favorite, because it's the nicest and most beautiful course I've played here,” said Edwards.
Also known as Grand National, the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail has been home to events such as "1997 Nike Tour Championship" and the "2000 NCAA Men’s Division I Golf Championship."
Grand National is built on Lake Saugahatchee and provides scenic landscape.
“Grand National is one of the best courses in the state and probably the southeast,” said Thrash.
Whether you would like beautiful scenery or just some stress release from class, golf in Auburn can fulfill all of those this spring. You do not have to be a part of the golf team to play golf in Auburn. Whether you are playing competitively or just for leisure, Auburn has a lot of options.
“Auburn is a good place to golf, there is a great selection of courses for it being such a small town,” said Edwards.
Students should look in to hitting the green instead of hitting the pool this spring. Relax on the golf course instead of on a lounge chair. You may find that one of the best parts of spring is on the greens.
