Although the Alpha Psi Rodeo stole the attention of the majority of the students of Auburn University, the reopening of SnowBiz was an occasion to be treasured.

Many people anxiously await the reopening of SnowBiz on April 1 after the sad closing at the end of the summer. And this year was no different. Auburn rejoices as warm weather rolls in with the first round scoop of flavored ice.

Ashley Miller, a junior in nursing, said, “Some of my friends started a Facebook event just because they were excited about SnowBiz opening again.”

Miller did not attend this Facebook event, but chose to save her first SnowBiz experience of the year until Saturday, April 4, 2009.

Miller said, “The weather just wasn’t right on April 1, it was cloudy and bleak. I wanted to wait till nicer weather, which happened to be on Saturday.”

When Miller got to SnowBiz the line was about twenty people deep and everyone was there from little kids to the Best Buddies program.

“I thought everyone would be at the rodeo, but I was wrong they were at SnowBiz,” Miller said.

Elizabeth Neilson, a volunteer at Best Buddies, said, “We came as part of our scavenger hunt, and one thing on the list was to get a snow cone.”

While people waited in line they enjoyed perfect weather and breathed in the start of a new season, a season they have been looking forward to since it left.

Madison Johnson, a visitor from out of town, had never had a SnowBiz snow cone before and was anxious to try her first one.

“I had heard so much about them from my friends so I had to try the flavor they suggested was the best, Tiger’s Blood,” Johnson said, “It was delicious, I can’t believe I’d been missing out for so long.”

Abby Cheser, a junior in nursing, said she has been getting the same thing since she was little.

“Tiger’s Blood and Grape, it’s the best. Why would I get anything else,” Cheser said.

She also thought no one would be at SnowBiz because of the rodeo, and she was shocked when she rode up on her bike and saw the massive line. But she waited in it anyway, because she had been waiting all winter to taste the sweet concoction again.
