Late night eating -- it’s a dieter’s transgression, yet the desire of late night eaters.
Taylor’s Bakery is serving made-to-order breakfast every Wednesday through Saturday. It starts at midnight and lasts till dawn. The bakery is located in downtown, which makes a short walk for those out on the town.
If you are a big eater, make it known. If you’re not, your meal can be prepared appropriately. “It’s a chef driven kitchen,” said Taylor. “They will make whatever you’d like.”
The most popular order is the Big B Burrito. It contains egg, cheese and a choice of sausage or bacon. Salsa and sour cream come on the side.
Also served are egg sandwiches. They are composed the same as the Big B, but on white or wheat toast.
Other items include quiche du jour, biscuits and gravy, plain biscuits and others.
Yet, Taylor’s breakfast is not limited to the “After Hours Breakfast Menu.” There are two display coolers full of baked goods. Cup cakes, cinnamon rolls, cookies and brownies are among the many things offered.
“Taylor’s Bakery is home of the freshman 15,” said Taylor. Proudly claiming, she said the cinnamon rolls are the most popular of the baked goods. They are larger than most, and are covered in icing. The friendly staff will even heat it for you.
Following the cinnamon rolls are the cupcakes. Taylor celebrates “Cupcake Explosion” twice a year by making 120 dozen. “It’s amazing,” said Taylor. “The whole case is loaded with cupcakes. Any flavor of cake you can imagine is there.” The bakery has more than 20 flavors, and mocha and peanut butter and jelly are two of them. The celebration beings on Oct. 15 at 7 a.m.
Though, it doesn’t end with the cupcake celebration. It continues throughout the year with students visiting the shop to study. “We are the place to study in town. We are always filled with people,” said Taylor. Wireless internet is also available.
The bakery opened in May 1997. Taylor said when she moved to Auburn there was no bakery that catered to residents or students. “There wasn’t a place to get a cookie or a brownie,” she said. “We try to make things very simple. It seems to have worked.”
Taylor recognizes that business has been successful, but still believes that she hasn’t reached everyone. “We are the biggest secret in town,” she said. “People still don’t know about us.”
