Diversity Research:Bringing Awareness and Change

AUBURN-Auburn’s recent diversity conference has brought awareness to the topic of diversity research. Auburn has many employees from numerous departments currently undertaking diversity research initiatives.

Diversity research serves as a catalyze for change and development in Auburn and across the nation. Through diversity research we can better understand how it fix problems for auburn employees, students, community relations and national development.

“ I was very impressed by the conference, I learned that diversity is a rich term that has less to do with dividing people into labels, but the overall goal to bring everyone together,” said JohnEric Dyer, senior at Auburn University.

Dyer attended the conference representing minority students on behalf of SGA. Dyer, being from Haiti, understands the value of learning and understanding other cultures.

Research is important to further our evolution and well being. It is with diversity that we evolve and are become open to listen to new ideas and accept other cultures, ways of life and find our own opinions. Having a diverse population has many benefits.

Students that are educated in a diverse atmosphere will be able to cope with the global markets and make better policy in dealing with foreign affairs or cultural relations. This is because; when you have diverse interactions your thinking is challenged.

When your thinking is challenged you broaden your knowledge, form your own opinions and seek the truth.

In the quest for truth student can reach excellence and that is what Auburn University strives for.

With diversity research we can bring awareness to problems within the university as well as the rest of the world.

America is so multicultural which makes diversity research vital to our development and sustainability. Many other colleges throughout the nation are doing great work with diversity research.

NC state, Berkley and the University of Maryland, to name a few, are all raising awareness about the important of diversity research as well as establish their diversity research initiatives.

“The challenge of this opportunity is how to develop one of the most diverse populations found in any nation-state in the world, “said Berkley Professor Emeritus Karl Pister. Pister was discussing California's richly diverse population and explained that research will serve to help fit the needs of the diverse population and foster understanding of issues and opportunities related to diversity and inclusion.

Auburn is proud to be conducting vast diversity research and has increased the funding for such work. It is through diversity that we can learn that humans are humans, all are created equal and all deserve the right to work towards happiness and success.
