It’s Friday night and you want to take a certain someone special out on the town, but where will you go? Students are faced with the dilemma of where to take their significant other out to dinner in Auburn every week.
Students are looking for places to go out on a casual dates, others are trying to impress on their first date and some are celebrating special occasions. Restaurants located around downtown Auburn are sure to fit any occasion.
If going on a first date some students would recommend going to restaurants like Juliana Tokyo or Brick Oven.
“I really enjoy the atmosphere of Brick Oven. The pizza is great and I love how you can see them make it,” said Laura Benefield, senior at Auburn University.
Casual dates are common among Auburn students. Restaurants to accommodate this type of date downtown are Calypso’s, located at 154 N. College St., and also Brick Oven, located at 230 N. Gay St., which fits in most budgets.
“Calypso’s is great,” said Tiffany Mueller, senior at Auburn. “The outdoor area is awesome to watch the game or just get to hang out with someone.”
Dates to celebrate special occasions or couples wanting to have a high-end dining experience may go to restaurants like Hamilton’s, Zazu Gastropub or Amsterdam Cafe.
Hamilton’s is located on 174 E Magnolia Ave next to 1716. The restaurant has a complete wine list and features entrees such as seared tuna and filet mignon.
“We offer a great atmosphere and excellent dishes to satisfy any ones taste,” said Jorge Delgado, a senior at Auburn and server at Hamilton’s.
Zazu is located at 149 East Magnolia Ave, directly across the street for Hamilton’s. Zazu specializes in angus steaks and seafood that is overnighted directly from Hawaii.
“Zazu is an eclectic dining experience,” said Mueller. “I really enjoy the seafood there and the fact that it comes directly from Hawaii.”
Amsterdam Café is located on 408 S Gay St. on the corner of Samford Avenue. Amsterdam uses local produce for most of their menu items and also specializes in seafood dishes.
“Amsterdam is my favorite restaurant in Auburn. The atmosphere is so relaxing and unique,” said Allie Adams, junior at Auburn.
