The Auburn University Modeling Board is hosting its second annual “Couture for the Cure” fashion show on Thursday, Nov. 3. The proceeds from “Couture for the Cure” will be donated to the East Alabama Medical Center Breast Health Program’s Mammogram Fund, which funds free mammogram screenings for those in need in the Auburn-Opelika community.
“We chose breast cancer awareness as our modeling board philanthropy because it is a cause close to our hearts,” said Emily Busby, vice president of the Modeling Board. “Our advisor is a two time breast cancer survivor and her story inspired us to create awareness in our community.”
“Couture for the Cure” will be held at The Event Center in Downtown Opelika from 7 to 9 p.m.
The event will begin with a reception with food provided by local vendors and a cash bar. The show will start promptly at 7:30 p.m. and will feature fall and winter fashions from Elle, The Pink Room, Dillards and Behind the Glass.
The members of the modeling board will model the clothing and the show will also honor numerous local breast cancer survivors as well as women currently battling breast cancer.
There will be live music throughout the event featuring Matt Dean and Michael Everts. A raffle for items from Elle and J&M will also take place.
The Modeling Board has received a tremendous amount of support from the community. Last year, “Couture for the Cure” raised more than $2,000 which provided more than 30 people in the Auburn-Opelika community with mammograms.
“‘Couture for the Cure’ will be an evening of food, fashion and entertainment,” said Busby. “But it is also an opportunity for us to create awareness about breast cancer, honor those going through treatment or who have battled breast cancer and to raise money to give a mammogram to someone in need.”
Tickets for “Couture for the Cure” are $6 in advance and $8 at the door. Information on advance ticket sales can be found by contacting Emily Busby at emb0017@auburn.edu or any of the other modeling board members.
