The team, which has a 24-11 record this season, will be playing Baylor in Tuesday’s game. The winner will advance to the NIT Final Four, which takes place in New York's historic Madison Square Garden on March 31, 2009.
The Auburn vs. Baylor game will be televised on ESPN and can be heard on the Auburn/ISP Sports Network and on XM Satellite Radio on one of the SEC Channels 199-201.
Auburn has won 11 of its last 13 games and its 24 wins are tied for the second most in school history.
During the SEC Tournament, the team beat Florida (61-58) and lost to Tennessee (94-85) in Tampa, Fla. On March 13-14, 2009.
The Tigers hosted round one against UT-Martin on March 18, 2009. This was Auburn’s first postseason appearance since the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in 2003. Both reaching career highs, Dewayne Reed scored 23 points and Quantez Robertson contributed 19 to the Tigers’ score.
They also beat Tulsa at home 74-55 in round two. Rasheem Barrett scored 17 points and DeWayne Reed added 12.
“We've got quickness at a lot of different spots to go after those things," Auburn coach Jeff Lebo said. "We just play like a bunch of junkyard dogs. That's what we do. That's what we look like out there. Nobody gets hardly any recognition. It's just a bunch of guys that play well together and play hard. It's somebody different that seems to step up each night."
Baylor reached the Big 12 Conference Tournament championship game by defeating regular season conference champion Kansas, Texas and Nebraska. The Bears defeated Georgetown and won at Virginia Tech 84-66 to advance to the NIT quarterfinals.
