Life has taken Coach Gus Malzahn and Wide Reciever Damian Williams on completely different paths. However, the two have created a bond that will never be broken. Damien decided to forego his senior season and declare for the 2010 NFL Draft. He has been in a different time zone everyday for the past two weeks in preparation for the announcement of where he will be drafted and realized he had a quick two days off. He booked a flight and came to visit his old Springdale High School coach.
“That’s my coach there is no one in the world like him,” Williams says.
In the fall of 2005, Springdale High's version of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams were receiver Damian Williams and quarterback Mitch Mustain. Williams decision to declare for the NFL Draft was one he ran by his old coach, in fact Malzahn is who he turns to for any kind of football advice even to this day. Williams is predicted to make an early impact in the NFL.
Unlike previous years, the 2010 draft will take place over three days, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, with the first round on Thursday, April 22, 2010. The second and third rounds will take place on Friday, April 23 while the final four rounds will be held on Saturday, April 24. The St. Louis Rams, as the 2009 season's worst team, hold the right to the first overall pick.
Williams will host his draft party in him and Malzahn’s hometown and you better his old coach will be in attendance.
