On Saturday, Dec.3, the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center will host its6thannual Polar Express Holiday Celebration. The event will take place at 10a.m. and 1p.m.
Children 12 years old and younger are encouraged to wear their favorite Christmas pajamas to the event. The event will feature holiday themed arts and crafts for the children to take home, Christmas music, a performance by the East Alabama Ballet and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.
The book tells the story of a young boy on Christmas Eve waiting to hearing Santa’s sleigh bells, but instead finds a magical train pulling up infront of his house.
The train is full of children, in their pajamas, heading to the North Pole. The young boy receives a sleigh bell from Santa at the North Pole
that can only be heard by those who believe.
There will be a train at the event for the children to ride and imagine they are going to the North Pole.
Children will also be given a silver bell, like the one in the book, to take home with them.
“This is a community event that recreates the ride to the North Pole on the Polar Express,” said LindseyRogers, Public Relations intern. “Children 12 and under are invited to wear their favorite pajamas and join in on the fun.”
Rogers said the event is popular each year.
“This event continues to be a success each year that the families in this community look forward to," she said. "We think to think we have become a part of these families Christmas traditions.”
Tickets for this event have all ready sold out, but there is a waiting list for any spots that may come available.
The Polar Express Holiday Celebration is presented by Auburn Parks and Recreation and the Auburn Arts Association and sponsored by East Alabama Community Ballet, HobbyTown Usa, and Kinnucan's. For more information, please contact the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center at 501-6293.
