UPC, or University Programming Council, has been busy this week planning fun events for Auburn students. UPC makes an effort to show movies before they are released for DVD. So if you want a sneak peak,
Hancock will be playing in Haley Center 2370 at 7:00 pm.
On Wednesday, Oct. 22, UPC hosts a political luncheon in the Auburn University Student Center rooms 2222 and 2223 from 11:30am-2:00pm. A variety of professors will be there to discuss current political topics with students and there will be representatives from different political groups.
The biggest event that UPC hosts this week is the live feed of the Auburn vs. West Virginia football game on Thursday, Oct. 23. Since there was no game last week and Auburn has two away games in a row, tailgating on campus has come to a halt. However, UPC paired up with SGA so that Auburn students can keep up the tailgating tradition on Thursday evening starting at 5:30pm on Cater Lawn. Students are encouraged to bring footballs, blankets and their shakers to watch the live feed. Food will be served and this is a great opportunity for Auburn students to come hang out together and cheer on the tigers. Also, Coach Lebo and the AU men’s basketball team will be there as special guests support their fellow athletes play against West Virginia. There will be free giveaways and lots of food!
So much planning goes into the events that UPC hosts for Auburn students. Freddy Guzman, a junior in UPC, is the assistant director for Tiger Nights. He got involved in UPC after having a lot of free time his freshman year and a friend from his hometown persuaded him to try out for UPC.
“UPC sparked my interest,” says Guzman. “I liked the idea of planning things for other students to enjoy and giving back to Auburn.”
As the assistant director of Tiger Nights, Guzman is in charge of it once a semester. However, most events that UPC hosts run the same and everyone chips in to help.
“We call it ‘load-in’ which is when the committee members and volunteers arrive to the event an hour or two before it begins to set up everything.” The committee that is hosting the live feed is films committee.
UPC is hosting ghost hunter, Darren Thompson, next Thursday at 7pm in the AU Student Center Ballroom, talk about his ghost experiences and will lead a ghost hunt through Auburn’s campus.
“UPC has lots in store for the rest of the semester, and I can’t wait to watch the game on Thursday with other members of the Auburn family,” says Guzman. For more information on UPC events, visit www.auburn.edu/upc.
