A Green Auburn? Auburn's Grand Opening of The New Bike Path on Donahue.

With parking coming to an all-time minimum on campus, many students are responding to the “epidemic” by riding their bikes to class or taking the transit. This is a great way to encourage student exercise by forcing us to take different measures in transportation to school.
There are no set-in-stone bike routes on campus that are strictly for bikers, except for the designated lanes on the side of the roads; still not as safe.
One particular bike path that has been under construction for 3 years on the side of Donahue is finally giving students the safety they need to ride to campus on their bikes is finally about to make its grand opening. This event is going to be used to further Auburn’s mission to a more greener, bike and pedestrian-friendly campus. Though Auburn’s transit system allows students to load their bikes onto the bus, the use of this bike path will likely encourage students who live on the south-side of College to go ahead and use it. Having to wait on the bus is a hassle if you’re running late, so the use of this bike path makes it easier for these students to have a clear shot straight to campus in a more timely fashion.
The grand opening is scheduled to commence at 9 a.m. on October 25. The event will host many people for recreational biking and will include several activities such as a 5 mile bike ride and the annual Chris Hinds Memorial Ride which includes a $30 fee. Proceeds will go to the Auburn Flyers and Storybook Farm. Everyone is encouraged to come out and support the grand opening, that way everyone will be aware of what this campus now has to offer.
This idea is a good one considering how the market is right now as well as gas prices. With everything on a slow decline, this poses as a silver lining to everyone in the community and gives hope to us that we are going to rebound from this situation. Since many people are having problems with this new setup Auburn has conceived and are looking for answers on how to better cope with these arrangements, the solution is hidden away on the side of Donahue for now until the grand opening to a new and brighter beginning for Auburn’s mission to a clean and healthier campus.
