Auburn’s desire to fulfill services to the community is something that goes beyond the base of the institution. It allows the university to make a name for itself as an important entity to the survival of Lee County. With the maturity of Auburn’s students shining and the confidence they have in accomplishing their goals for the community, they embark on a walk for hunger to Montgomery’s capitol building on the 17th to raise awareness on world hunger.
The Auburn Committee of 19 is in charge of conducting this march and is expecting this to take about 3 days. They will start this Friday and end on Sunday at the steps of Montgomery’s capitol building. Stops they will be taking include Tuskegee, after the initial 20-mile march, and then another scheduled stop in the Mt. Meigs area after the latter portion of the trip.
Haley Walker, president of The Auburn Committee of 19, is in charge of planning the march. She and her fellow club members are extremely enthusiastic about making a difference through the walk. With 4.3 pounds of food per person on average available every day, the march’s objective is to raise awareness to the attention of our government and involve them in the race to provide the world with the necessities it deserves.
Alongside gaining the attention of the public eye, the committee has been kind enough to include the rest of campus in their efforts to suppress world hunger by setting up stations in the following locations for donations of money and/or food: Cater Lawn and Foy Hall.
In an effort to lend a helping hand to the human race, Auburn University’s Auburn Committee of 19 is setting a great example for the rest of the world to mimic and follow suit. The objective Auburn’s organization is trying to accomplish is to light a fire under our country to help the less fortunate. As the world knows, we are a powerhouse economically and we should utilize our resources to gain the trust of the world and lead them to realize that we are a great and courteous country. We should lead by example and educate others to donate what they can to save the lives of the less fortunate. In observance of the week of hunger, we salute the volunteers who participate in the march and admire them for their courage and leadership to do what is necessary to end world hunger.
