AU Student Explains Legend of the Official Seal of Auburn University

On October 30, 1959, Alabama Governor John Patterson officially changed the name of The Alabama Polytechnic Institute to Auburn University and with that decision also adopted an official seal of the institution. The official seal of Auburn University states "Research, Instruction and Extension." But not only does the official seal of Auburn University describe three aspects of education at Auburn, but also carries a myth as well.

Ross Beitzel, a senior at Auburn University majoring in Marketing, is very familiar with the official Auburn University seal due to past experience. Beitzel served as a Head Camp War Eagle Counselor last summer and has led many campus tours. Beitzel has extended knowledge of Auburn University traditions and history and in the following interview, Beitzel explains the legend behind the Auburn University seal.
