CBS College Sports gives recognition to the War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen

When you think about Auburn the first thing that comes to mind is probably Auburn Football. While this is true for so many people, for some, Auburn is much more than a football team, it is a tradition and it is a passion. The War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen are Auburn students who truly believe and love Auburn University and everything it stand for. Since 1935, the War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen have represented Auburn University students to faculty, administration, alumni, and the Auburn community. The War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen are a part of the Office of the President and serve as host and hostesses to Auburn. They contribute their services at both sporting events and other events around campus letting Auburn's spirit be spread around.

The War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen are made up of 12 boys and 12 girls each bringing different backgrounds and diversities. They also have Miss Auburn as an honorary member of the group. While this group is always working for Auburn, they are most noticeable during football season. Most students would recognize the War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen as the guys in orange jackets and the girls in navy suits at games, they are much more than their suits reveal. On gamedays, the War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen host pre-game football parties at the president’s mansion and work the alumni association's tent. During the game, the War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen work in the President’s suite to assist and entertain Board of Trustee Members and other friends of Auburn.

When they are not working at the football games, the War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen are serving in other ways. They give campus tours to prospective students, visiting alumni, and Auburn friends. They also host visiting dignitaries of Auburn University. In 2005, the War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen hosted Vice President Dick Cheney when he was a guest speaker at Auburn’s commencement ceremony. War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen also travel to alumni parties, groundbreaking ceremonies on campus, The Special Olympic games, career expos, Board of Trustee meetings, and much more.

While many Auburn students may not be aware of the work and dedication these 25 students have to Auburn, they are not going completely unnoticed. CBS College Sports has decided to do a documentary on the War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen. They will highlight the work that these men and women put into making Auburn a highly regarded university and town.

Last week, CBS College Sports came to Auburn and shot some video of the members. Jordan Huff, a current War Eagle girl, was given the opportunity to talk with the CBS Sports staff to give her thoughts on the group. Jordan was one of the members who also got to give the CBS crew a tour of campus. While the story will not be a nationally broadcasted series, she believes that this is a good step towards giving Auburn more recognition and shining some light on what the War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen do for the university. The series will air within the coming week both online and on CBS College Sports.
