Most college students get excited about moving into a new place -new roommates, a new living room to decorate and another adventurous year of college living. Even with this excitement, there is one aspect of moving that brings an anxious feeling to everyone’s stomach – the actual process of moving.

Bags of clothes, boxes of books, couches and beds – where did all this stuff come from? The process of packing everything and moving to a new location is only part of the challenge. The other part is the fact that most leases do not overlap.

For most rental situations, July 31 marks the end of a lease and August 1or later begins a new lease. This leaves students with at least one day where they are homeless with a car full of belongings.

What do these students do?

Crash with friends, go home for the weekend and who knows what else.

Another challenge that students face with a lease ending July 31 is that summer classes and finals do not end until August 6. This leaves some students without a home for 6 days.

While many students do not realize the purpose of ending a lease on July 31, it is something that has to be done. Renters need time to repaint rooms, clean carpets and get their rental property ready for the next tenants.

So, if you see a student around town looking like they have not showered in a couple of days with bags under their eye and a car full of belongings, shoot them a smile because it will probably brighten their homeless day.
