For every senior, their final semester is usually a bittersweet one. You are excited to start a new chapter in your life, yet sad that your college years have come to a close. Some students come in to their final class with a scantron in one hand and a number two pencil in the other, realizing that the only thing keeping them from graduating is a 40-question test waiting on their desk. However, for the Auburn University Department of Communication and Journalism, a test is not the only thing keeping them from graduating.
An internship is the final task that most students in the department of communication and journalism must complete in order to graduate. It means taking the skills you have developed over the past three and a half years and putting them to use. These internships are meant to prep students in what it is like in the real world. Though their tests are not printed on paper, the real test is surviving in a normal work atmosphere.
Erin, a senior, has done things a little different regarding her internship. Instead of using her last semester to intern, she has opted to graduate a little earlier by completing it this summer. As a public relations major, she was required to complete two of the five main public relations courses in order to have an internship. After completing those courses this past spring, Erin began interning at Youth for Christ.
Youth for Christ is a nonprofit organization located in Auburn. Erin recently just finished an event.
As for feeling ready for the challenges of the real world, Erin is more than prepared. The internship, along with her classes, has developed and even enhanced her skills that will help her make her mark in the world. She is excited and cannot wait for the next chapter in her life. If only the rest of us were.
