From Renovation to Open House: Opelika Chamber Building is Now Complete

Opelika Chamber of Commerce’s four month long renovations are now complete. To celebrate the brand new look of this 114-year-old Victorian jewel, the chamber hosted an open house and building dedication for chamber members to attend.

The open house took place on Thursday, Nov. 5. It lasted from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Refreshments were available throughout the house. The food was prepared in the chamber’s remodeled kitchen.

Lee County's Historical Fair

The Lee County Historical Fair takes place once a year in Loachapoka, which is right across the street from the Syrup Soppin’ festival.

The Historical Fair has been going on for 38 years. The purpose of the fair is to bring together the community for a Saturday of fun, food and history, while raising money.

All profits earned from the fundraising event go to support the museum, which is free to visit.

Tailgating in Auburn: A Harper Family Tradition

Attorney Mike Harper, Auburn University alumnus, has been tailgating for 33 years. It all began when he came to Auburn as a political science major in 1976. Now, Harper has bigger tailgates. He drives to every home game with his family, Auburn friends and other scholarship donors to cheer on Auburn’s football team.

Harper begins to prepare for football season in July by scouting stores for new Auburn additions for his tailgate. He spends $350 at the store in advance buying Auburn condiments, sp… Continue

The Mason Dixon Band: A Band of Fate

The Mason Dixon Band consists of five guys who attend Auburn University. These students have played at “Sticks Country Music Festival,” The War Eagle Supper Club, fundraisers, weddings and greek events. Shortly after meeting in Auburn, the country band was formed.

Blake Thames, the lead guitarist, and Chase O’Mary, the drummer, are both studying mechanical engineering. They met in physics class where they discovered that they both shared a passion for music.
